For motor homes, there is still much potential to improve vehicle and road safety. In addition to the examination of the motor home usage, it is necessary to analyse the dynamic driving characteristics and the safety systems of these vehicles. For this reason, the safety level of these vehicles as well as the issue and problems in regards to the usage of motor homes need to be checked. It is necessary to demonstrate safety aspects compared to passenger cars. A special focus is on driving dynamics of these vehicles, which are influenced by different factors such as loading, technical systems, and tires. Another aspect in improving the level of safety is the knowledge of the usage behaviour or driving characteristics with motor homes especially compared to passenger cars. The project includes various work packages. The main focus is on the analysis of detailed accident data. Additionally, other aspects are considered, taking the findings of the accident scenario into account to reduce safety risks in motor homes. The work packages include: * accident data analysis; * user survey; * naturalistic driving with motor homes and passenger cars; * driving test and vehicle dynamic test; * registration requirements of motor homes; and * crash test The results of the study underline the need of advanced safety systems and improvement of technical systems of motor homes. In addition, the study provides recommendations and guidance that should sensitize users of motor homes to increase the safety of these vehicles. (Author/publisher)
