Abstract

The aim of the UNIACCESS project is to promote and support the coordination of research and innovation activities in the universal design of accessibility systems for public transport between a comprehensive group of stakeholders in order to achieve quality and equality of access to public transport in the EU. Details are given of the project objectives and the factors motivating the project. The work to be conducted to achieve the objective of networking the research in universal design has been divided into four packages. The first consists of a review of the state-of-the-art and the second consists of identifying concepts for new accessibility devices that can be used by people with and without mobility problems. The third package objective is to define a new improved collaborative innovation process and to produce a set of research and development proposals to implement the roadmap of future development work. The objective of the fourth work package is to disseminate the results of the project to stakeholders. The contributions of the different project participations are listed.
