Abstract

Laws governing the movements of solid particles thrown off by the revolving wheels of vehicles have been determined. The connection as between rate of travel of the vehicle, the angle of ejection, distance of throw and impact force were shown thereby. The dangerous distance for a vehicle following behind is thus ascertained to be about 10 metres. Experiments showed the distribution of water and solid particles thrown off as dependent upon the angle of ejection. Conclusions in respect of the shaping of protective equipment are formulated.
