Abstract

In this study, 235 ADR-licensed drivers judged and commented on a number of factors which might influence safety in transport of dangerous goods. The study was carried out as a main survey asking the drivers to judge factors related to vehicles, roads, safety regulations, training and company/employer attitude. According to the drivers, the most serious safety problems were unsatisfactory vehicle maintenance, the behaviour of other motorists and poor roads. The content of the drivers' ADR training was given a positive evaluation. On average, the drivers wanted moderate changes in the direction of increased ADR training, higher speed limits and a reduction of the number and complexity of safety regulations. Many of the comments given by the drivers were about the need for further training/information directed at different categories of people whose behaviour might affect transportation safety. (A)
