Abstract

The values and utilities of freeway ramp control and surveillance have been proven. There are several types of ramp control, from a simple fix-time control to more sophisticated and complicated moving merge control. Each of the several types of control serve a unique function and purpose in a system of freeway surveillance. The selection of a most appropriate control scheme depends on the system requirements and cost-effectiveness.
