Abstract

The paper addresses the issues of how the UMTA views light rail transit, what future role UMTA sees for this technology in American cities, and what considerations lead UMTA to sponsor a light rail transit conference. It is believed that light rail may be a major solution to the search for less costly, more efficient and more environmentally attractive transportation systems.
