Abstract

The determination of the effectiveness of nine safety pedestrian safety countermeasures is focused. These countermeasures are: preventive markings, median barriers, crosswalk setbacks, midblock crosswalk, diagonal parking, meter post barriers, stop line relocation. warning lights and bus stop relocation. A series of behavioural studies is conducted to determine the extent to which the proposed countermeasures inhibit undesirable vehicular and pedestrian behaviours.
