Abstract

This paper begins by looking at safety management in general and then goes on to consider safety in urban areas. It raises the question where is urban safety management going, and concludes with brief descriptions of two projects - the UK SAFER CITY and the European project DUMAS - the results of which will hopefully encourage more emphasis on area-wide safety strategies in the future.
