Abstract

Dynamic routing of drivers in the urban context aims at the reduction of congestion and travel times within the urban network, thus enabling a moreefficient use of the urban road network. Recurrent traffic congestions, long-term road works or special events are just few but frequent reasons for the disturbance of traffic flow. Therefore, public authorities are defining special strategies that shall regulate the traffic in case of serious disruption. Consideration of those strategies in the routing of drivers enhances the dynamic routing in order to increase the transport system efficiency. Within the European project Co-operative Vehicle-Infrastructure Systems (CVIS) which is funded within the 6th Framework Program of the European Commission such a Strategic Routing application is developed as a prototype for the city center of Dortmund, Germany. This paper provides a briefoverview of this Strategic Routing application.
