Abstract

A main objective of the SCOPE project (Southampton COlogne and PiraEus) has been the development and application of integrated urban traffic management. Key to this is the introduction of on-line UTC systems and this paper describes the systems implemented in Cologne (MOTION) and Southampton (SCOOT 2.4). Approaches to traffic control in the United Kingdom and Germany are different and this is reflected in both system characteristics and philosophies of application. The approach within SCOPE enables comparisons to be made and differences and commonalities to be identified. (A)
