Urban traffic management in DRIVE.

Abstract

This paper gives a general overview of the research activities undertaken within the DRIVE Programme of the European Union in eight projects grouped to form the Area called "Integrated Urban Traffic Management" (IUTM). It underlines and places in context results of the individual projects. These include: a) general traffic data collection; b) urban incident detection; c) origin and destination estimation; d) pollution monitoring and control; and e) network signal control. Driver information systems include: a) variable message signing; b) dynamic route guidance; and c) parking information. Bus priority schemes and ramp metering are also covered. (A)
