Abstract

After stating the 3 principles underlying world bank policies: economic viability, financial viability and efficiency, the growth patterns of third world cities and the growth in demand for urban transport in developing countries are examined.Several methods can be employed to reduce excessive demand. Emphasis is being placed on self- supporting services now flourishing in many cities in the third world.
