Abstract

Safety needs of highway construction and maintenance workers and the traveling public has been a key element of SHRP research. This research has concluded by producing eleven devices ready for implementation by state highway agencies. What are FHWA's plans for implementation? What has been the experience of state highway agencies in the implementation of SHRP safety devices? What are the implementation problems and how are they being resolved? These questions are discussed in this paper. A short description of the eleven highway construction and maintenance safety devices is also provided.
