Abstract

The response times to collision warning signals of 114 French drivers have been collected, using the INRETS driving simulator. The age of participants ranges from 18 to 80 years. Different scenarios were designed on the driving simulator in order to compare the response times of drivers according to the attentional sharing during driving. It was observed that the following variables have an effect on response times while driving: age, gender, level of attention sharing (i.e. task complexity), familiarity with situation (learning).
