Abstract

Traffic is a considerable source of air pollution. However, in Finland air quality monitoring data has so far not been linked directly to traffic management. The objective of the study was to examine the feasibility and usability of air quality data as well as to determine a preliminary action plan for the use of air quality data in traffic management. The measures improving air quality can be divided into those resulting in long-term improvements and into those improving it temporarily (1-3 day period). The study examined daily short-term measures of traffic management, which can temporarily improve air quality. As a conclusion of the study, ways to use air quality data in traffic management are recommended. In the first phase the most suitable measures to be tested are different traffic information applications. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
