Abstract

During summer 1962 moving pictures of 5 minutes of driving behaviour of 304 white male drivers in Washington DC were taken without the drivers' knowledge. Of the total sample, positive identification of the driver was made in 263 cases, and accidents and violations records obtained. The films were scored for driving errors, and tabulated according to: presence-absence of accident frequency of accidents; and culpability of accidents.
