Abstract

This paper describes the structure of a Lowry-type spatial allocation model and the results of using the model to evaluate several different hypothetical urban forms with respect to the level of transportation energy consumed in urban passenger travel. The Lowry-type model was used together with simple models of trip generation, mode choice and trip assignment to produce realistic land-use patterns and characteristic travel behavior in each city.
