Abstract

This paper will discuss the use of partnering on the rollout of electronic tolling on the M5 Motorway. In this case, the result was a spectacular success in terms of schedule performance, budget performance, and client and contractor satisfaction. A technically difficult project was delivered in 9 weeks from contract award to opening. Clearly such a result could not be achieved with excellent cooperation and understanding from all participants. While the result was certainly positive there were lessons learnt which will be applied to future projects. This paper will describe the processes used and the lessons learnt so as to act as a "roadmap" for those wishing to adopt this approach.
