Abstract

The paper describes the Timeline Follow-Back (TLFB), an effective technique to assess changes in alcohol consumption following an alcohol-related motor vehicle crash (AR-MVC). The TLFB provides a precise method of collecting data on the quantity and frequency of drinking behavior, as well as atypical heavy drinking and variable patterns of drinking. Understanding the variable patterns of drinking have important implications for prevention of future injury with heavy drinkers following an AR-MVC.
