Abstract

This paper describes the use of ARRB's VADAS Video Data Acquisition System in a pilot study of freeway traffic flow. Freeway traffic represents the closest approximation to pure uninterrupted traffic flow. Previous methods of observing detailed traffic data have not been appropriate to use in the freeway environment. Video recording enables detailed observations to be made, and the ARRB VADAS System provides a powerful and versatile tool for the efficient extraction of quantitative observations from video.
