Abstract
A total of 8543 cars, up to five years old, were checked and their data put on tape. The full details are included in the full details computer printout at Section 11. A11. the other data are based on the figures up to and including the last car inspected in the month of March; this represents a total of 8199 cars. Bearing in mind the inconsistent distribution, within the different makes, of cars of different ages, conclusions are difficult to draw from the number of defects showing up in the various makes.
