Abstract

This paper presents a field study carried out to better understand why drivers use mobile phones in the car. Results contribute to identify requirements and possible solutions towards safer practices. The Group Elicitation Method (GEM) was used to elicit current practices involving professional drivers and students. Elicited concepts were analysed and lead to the identification of problems generated by the use of a mobile phone while driving. They are expected to be very useful for further human-centered design of on-board assistance systems. (Author/publisher)
