Abstract

An investigation is detailed based on the DETR External Vehicle Speed Control (EVSC) project covering issues concerning intelligent speed limiters and associated technologies, attitudes and predicted safety benefits. Aims of user trials described were concerned with studying driver behaviour in equipped cars, workload, acceptability and safety-critical behaviour. The potential benefits of EVSC on a range of road types are also studied.
