Abstract

This report examines the process of coding some 177,000 address elements from the Tyne and Wear public transport impact study travel surveys by computer using the computer program AMP. the report first gives an over-view of amp and then examines the practical problems associated with using the program. This is followed by an examination of the results from a number of the coding exercises. The final section makes a brief comparison between grid references produced by amp using a local gazetteer and those obtained by manual post coding which were then converted to grid references using the post office file postzon.
