Abstract

This paper describes how floating car data has traditionally been the main source of ground truth for travel time data quality evaluation. This paper introduces a framework for measuring the quality of vehicle probe data using new traffic surveillance devices based on Bluetooth technology. Issues related to data filtering and preparation are discussed. Results show that the new technology is a promising method for collecting high quality travel time data that can be used as ground-truth for evaluating other sources of travel time and other intelligent transportation (ITS) applications.
