Using the pushbutton telephone for alphanumeric data entry

Abstract

This paper describes the results of a laboratory study conducted under simulated data entry conditions in which subjects were required to input combined alphanumeric data using 12-button, pushbutton telephones. Three methods for entering alphabetic characters are evaluated in terms of user keying speed and accuracy.
