Abstract

There are a number of problems pedestrians experience as they are crossing a street for which ITS technologies can be applied. This paper discusses the specific categories of problems that are likely candidates for ITS applications and includes a description of the types of devices that are now being installed at a number of municipalities around the United States. It also provides information about a recently developed web site called PedSmart, where visitors can access the latest information related to the technologies described and learn about actual installations in various cities throughout the country.
