Using traffic conflicts to assess the safety of road design elements.

Abstract

Intended as an aid in trying to discover the cause of accidents at particular intersection location, the technique of "traffic conflict" is being developed at TRRL. The technique involves defining conflicts in terms of evasive action by road users and classifying each incident according to severity.
