Abstract

A Head-Up Display (HUD) demonstrator vehicle was developed for use in a "Road Traffic Informatics" (RTI) test site in Göteborg, Sweden. A pilot study representing one of the first real-traffic evaluations ever, where HUD has been used in an RTI application, was carried out during 1993-94. Overall, reactions to this new way of presenting information were very positive indicating that HUD, if properly used, can increase driver comfort and performance. The initial distraction dissipated after 3-4 hours and drivers liked the HUD-system better and better as time passed. (A)
