Abstract

The aim of this study is to assess the ability of lower limb surrogates to predict injury due to floor/footplate impact in military vehicles duringanti-vehicular (AV) landmine explosions. Two biomechanical surrogates; 50th percentile Hybrid III foot/ankle and THOR-Lx, were evaluated against previously established corridors. Two loading conditions were simulated to represent those conditions created in the field provided by the NATO RTO HFM 090 TG25 working group. Results show a better correlation to the corridors with the THOR-Lx for the lower impact condition. However, future work is needed including the evaluation of frangible surrogates.
