Abstract

The aim of the project is to describe the traffic environments in urban areas where measurements of traffic can be performed with the Metor measurement device. Consequently, studies in the field were carried out on selected links in Stockholm and Linkoeping. The measurement device was positioned at various distances from junctions with different traffic regulations and each measurement site was also recorded on video for an hour. The results of these studies show that the measurement device works well for vehicles unaffected by other vehicles when passing the measurement site. The exception is the vehicles which have almost come to a standstill. The measurement device did not work so well when vehicles met at the measurement site. The greatest problems were found at measurement sites close to the junction where traffic was slow, it took time to pass the site and opposing traffic was common. (A)
