Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to show that, given certain assumptions about human preferences, one can measure the money value which an individual places upon a given reduction of the probability of his own death by road accident (or by and other cause). This paper is based upon the simple notion that all individuals prefer a lower to a higher probability of death by road accidents and would be prepared of forfeit various combinations of income and leisure to reduce this probability by some given amount.
