Abstract

This issue of Current Topics in Transport includes over 75 abstracts of some of the published literature (reports, conference papers, books and journal articles) on the monetary valuation of travel time savings and delay, in theory and in practice. Theoretical topics covered include methods of estimating the value of times (VOT) for use in cost benefit analysis for highway and transport planning, structuring of stated preference interviews, the use of VOT in traffic assignment modelling, travel forecasting models, and econometric models. Practical applications of the use of VOT in evaluation of the costs and benefits of a wide range of transport activities are also included, for example in freight logistics planning, evaluation of lorry climbing lanes, high occupancy vehicle lanes, bus priority schemes, and various intelligent transport initiatives. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1992 and 1996. Much of the relevant English language literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database.
