Variability of a rate, with application to accident rates.

Abstract

The differential method is exemplified in derivation of an approximate formula for estimation of the variance of a rate. Coefficient of variation of a rate is then defined, and tabulated under a few example conditions. Application to accident rates is briefly discussed.
