Abstract

A major, on-going trial with Variable Speed Limit systems comprises 17 test sites, located in different parts of Sweden. It includes four main types of applications; intersections or bus stops, dense traffic links, links with adverse road conditions and vulnerable road user passages. The evaluation plan includes before-and-after studies regarding driver behaviour andattitudes. Socio-economical calculations are carried out based on an established model. It also includes follow-up and analysis of operational datafor the technical and organisational assessment. Based on the promising results, a strategy for continued operation of Variable Speed Limit systemsin Sweden will be formulated. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
