Abstract

For many years now the modelling and simulation of road traffic has become an important part of road traffic system engineering. An often neglected problem is the efficient integration of vehicle actuated control of traffic lights into traffic models of inner-city networks. The great effort regarding the modelling of several traffic signal systems requires an adequate approximation of the control behaviour, especially if large road networks are under simulation. Several aspects are presented of an approach to the approximation of vehicle actuated control of traffic lights aiming at their efficient implementation into traffic models.
