Abstract

The CALM standard for vehicle communication systems comprises of complementary and expandable communication media: Microwave at 5,8/5,9 GHz; Infrared; Cellular 2G/3G and MM-Wave at 60 GHz. The first member of the set was completed in 2005 with the standard Infrared part. The standard had been stable long before the voting, and so it was possible to develop products already before finalization. The contribution presents the first single chip semiconductor product which has the new standard implemented. The infrared communication device handles all CALM inherent issues and provides a standardized, easy to implement interface to the outside. Therefore this chip is expected to be a key building block of vehicle communication systems. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
