Abstract

This issue of Current Topics in Transport includes over 70 abstracts of some of the published literature (reports, conference papers, books and journal articles) on the design and adaptation of buses, trams, coaches, cars, taxis and other vehicles, so that they are easily accessible to mobility handicapped people. Abstracts are included on many projects in the UK, Europe and the USA. Amongst the subjects covered are assessment of low floor bus initiatives in various local authorities, securing of wheelchairs in public service vehicles and taxis, vehicle mounted passenger lifts and adaptations of motor controls for drivers with physical disabilities. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1990 and 1995. Much of the relevant English language literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database.
