Abstract

Recent developments which have led to the improvement of conventional vehicle detectors and which make possible new types of vehicle detector are described. The various physical phenomena which have been employed to produce vehicle detectors are reviewed. The improvement that can be made to conventional vehicle detectors through the use of modern electronic techniques is illustrated with the design of an inductive loop vehicle detector.
