Abstract

A set of safety-relevant performance qualities were defined for the passenger car as a first step in the development of objective measures of precrash safety performance. Six limit manoeuvres and associated limit responses were identified to serve as a means of assessing the safety quality of a motor vehicle. Two of these manoeuvres were performed using an automatic control system. The proposed test procedures were applied to four different types of vehicle.
