Abstract

Travel time is one of the most important traffic data. Although its estimation has been studied for a long time, there are still many problems about accuracy and measuring delay. An algorithm to match vehicles based on characteristics that are measurable by popular vehicle detectors was developed to estimate accurate travel time with short delay. An evaluation of this algorithm showed that it can estimate travel time accurately even if it is able to measure only vehicle height. Moreover, it is more accurate if it is also able to measure vehicle length. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
