Abstract

Higher speeds and greater volumes of traffic demand greater driver alertness. Proper design of instrument panel displays can contribute positively to this. Further advanced systems will also assist maintenance scheduling and improve vehicle reliability. This paper deals with the lay-out, positioning and grouping of the instruments within the car. Details of various dashboard instruments are described and their importance discussed, after which recommendations are given for future instrumentation. (See also B 2933).
