Abstract

Small portable devices are emerging to the market and have become parts of individuals' everyday life. Smart phones, portable navigation devices, and personal digital assistants are called nomadic devices. These devices are used more and more while driving which causes increasing potential risk of driver distraction. A need for integration between nomadic devices and vehicles has been identified in order to reduce driver's workload and safety risks in traffic. A sub-project of AIDE IP concentrates on the work to identify, define, and demonstrate integration of nomadic devices with vehicles in typical applications. The Nomadic Device Forum has also been established to cover these issues. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
