Abstract

The effect and the potential safety implications of overall limits on truck length is studied. In the absence of specific limits on the length of the cargo-carrying portion of trucks, economic pressure for more cargo space has led to decreases in the size of the occupant compartment. Model length limit regulations that do not provide an economic incentive to increase cargo space at the expense of tractor length should be developed.
