Abstract

This paper proposes a vehicle location management system for a Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) network using distributed databases. The system consists of distributed databases of a Home Location Register (HLR) and Local Location Registers (LLRs), and a proxy server. The distributed architecture improves database scalability and a cache mechanism on the proxy server allows an application server to search location information efficiently. The system also provides an Internet Protocol (IP) based location service platform for ITS service providers. The detailed system configuration, registration and search procedures and quantitative analyses are shown in this paper. Performance evaluations using a trial system confirm that the system provides sufficient performance for the purposes of ITS location management.
