Abstract

Vehicle mounted passenger lifts provide a major link in transport for people with a mobility handicap. Although designed to accommodate wheelchair users, lifts provide vital access to a much wider range of people. This paper presents an overview of the range of lifts and applications within Europe and North America, and considers their future role across the transport mix. Factors governing choice of equipment, and passenger safety are discussed, in relation to passenger lifts in buses, coaches, trains and private vehicles.
