Abstract

Conventional image processing methods of recognizing a vehicle are susceptible to changes in the outer environment such as a shadow of a vehicle or a roadside building and overlap of vehicles in the traffic congestion. In order to eliminate this problem, Omron have developed a vehicle recognition method based on three-dimensional (3D) measurement using a pair of cameras. Tests show the method can obtain 95% accuracy rates for the images to be used in experiments.
