Abstract
Suitably modified vehicles and personal assistance are often prerequisites for the disabled and elderly to be able to travel. Experimental studies have provided guidelines for modification of taxi cabs. Volvo's prototype taxi, which can be used by a person confined to a wheelchair, is described. Development work in designing better wheelchairs with the aim of facilitating travel is discussed. A special wheelchair that can be carried and lifted is described.
