Abstract

Conspicuity in the road traffic situation has been determined for eleven colour samples. This determination is based on the consideration that conspicuity, and therefore the safety of a colour depend on the colour- and brightness contrast with the average roadway scene. The saturated colours orange DAF208 and (orange) red DAF207 are the most conspicuous ones, immediately followed by other yellow-orange-red hues. The more dull yellow AC323 scores as one of the least, which accentuates the fact that not all yellows have equal conspicuity. Although the green colours still have a reasonable conspicuity, they nevertheless score with the least of the studied samples. Grey is very inconspicuous. (Author/publisher)
