Abstract

In the framework of regionalisation and decentralisation in the netherlands recommendations should be given by which provincial and local authorities under their own responsibility can increase their efforts to improve traffic safety. Therefore each province should have its own council for traffic safety to co-ordinate the policy and planning of traffic safety between the national government, the province and the local authorities. Such a council should also be a knowledge and information bank which can also make proposals for the financing of the different projects. Two provinces already have such a council and it is proposed to introduce them in other regions.
